The Sims is one of the longest running video games in the world. After being released in February 4, 2000, the life simulation game by Maxis and Electronic Arts has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide and it continues to be a favorite among a lot of gamers.
With Sims 4 currently on the market, it’s only natural for fans to start wondering when will Sims 5 be released? Unfortunately, neither Maxis nor Electronic Arts have said much about its release date just yet.
But there have been hints as to the future of Sims 5, most of which depend on the success of Sims 4. In a statement made by producer Grant Rodiek, he said: “We’re not working on Sims 5. We’re not thinking about Sims 5.
If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5.” That comment has been deleted in the Sims forum ever since and speculations that Sims 5 is coming soon are once again circulating in gaming forums.
In an interview with Variety almost two years ago, Rodiek hinted that Sims 4 has at least three more years of content to show, which means that Sims 5 could be released early 2021.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson also confirmed that The Sims game will continue for many more years, only this time, it will focus on “social interaction and competition.”
“We are very excited. This is a game that really doesn’t have any competition in its category for delivering and fulfilling these motivations for players and we think is a tremendous growth opportunity for us for many, many years to come,” he said.
Avid gaming fans also noticed several job openings in both EA and Maxis for what is dubbed as its “next big production” and a “new, unannounced title.” For fans, this could be Sims 5.
No matter when Sims 5 will be released, it will surely be massive since Sims 4 has already done so well and has more than 12 major packs ready for release. As the Sims team is still busy working on Sims 4 content, a smaller team could be working on ideas for Sims 5 to cater for the requests of fans.
And if there’s any consolation for the long wait, it’s that EA and Maxis will not only be releasing Sims 5 for computers but also for PS5 and the Xbox Series X, which are due to be launched this year.
