Erode MDMK MP A. Ganeshamurthi’s death was caused by a cardiac arrest following a suspected suicide attempt where he consumed poison due to personal distress over being denied a ticket to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Biography of A. Ganeshamurthi

A. Ganeshamurthi, a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics, was a veteran of the Dravidian movement and a respected leader within the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party. Born in 1947 in a village near Chennimalai, Erode district, he hailed from an agriculturist family and was a trained lawyer. Ganeshamurthi’s political journey began early, with his involvement in the DMK during his school days, eventually becoming the Erode district secretary of the party. He later joined the MDMK led by Vaiko and was elected to the Lok Sabha twice, representing Palani in 1998 and Erode in 2009.

Known for his dedication to social work and his active participation in party activities, Ganeshamurthi was a popular local candidate. Despite facing challenges, including a close defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, his commitment to public service and the Dravidian ideology remained unwavering. Ganeshamurthi’s sudden demise in 2024, following personal distress over a denied ticket for the upcoming elections, marked the end of a long and impactful political career.
