Car bombing directed against the security forces took 22 casualties in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, on Tuesday. At least 20 people are injured, Reuters reported, citing a spokesman for the forces and medical sources.

The explosion occurred in a residential area in the al-Qawarsha district – scene of the fighting between the faithful of the government security forces and the alliance of Islamists and other opponents of the government. Responsibility for the act took the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries through coalition related media sites.

Benghazi has been shaken by violence ever since two years ago, the military commander in eastern Libya Khalifa Hifter launched a campaign against the coalition. The commanded by him forces advanced in several areas in recent months but failed to take full control of the city.

Target of yesterday’s attack was a meeting of the Task Force of the commanded by Haftar Libyan National Army. According to an eyewitness to the explosion, the blast was so powerful that it completely destroyed a three-storey building. The exact number of victims and wounded from the attack is still being determined.
