A police officer working in the transport system of Washington is accused of helping fighters of the terrorist group Islamic State, reported CNN.

This is the first officer in the US arrested and charged with supporting а terrorist group.

Federal officials reported that 36-year-old Nicholas Young was arrested Wednesday by the FBI. He’s been working in the transport system of the capital since 2003 and was fired after his arrest. The investigation against him had lasted more than a year. According to authorities, he has provided material support to ISIS.

According to the services, there is no evidence of any threat to the subway system in DC.

According to the FBI, in 2011, Young traveled to Libya to fight the rebels who tried to overthrow President Muammar Gaddafi.

Authorities said that Young knew Amin El Caliphs, who pleaded guilty to the attempted attack against the US Congress in 2012.
