Armed attackers stormed the building of Afghanistan’s National Radio Television in the eastern city of Jalalabad, local media reported earlier today.

The attack started at around 10:00 local time (05:30 GMT) on Wednesday, May 17. Gunmen entered the building, which is close to the governor’s compound, and engaged in gun battle with security forces. The information was given by the provincial governor’s spokesman.

“We can confirm that a number of insurgents have entered the building,” said Attaullah Khughyani. “Who they are, and what their target is, is still not clear.”

He said there appeared to have been at least three attackers, two of whom had blown themselves up while at least one was still fighting, Reuters reported.
