The inauguration of Pune Metro is scheduled for Saturday and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Starting March 7, residents will be able to enjoy an air-conditioned and faster ride from Vanaz to Ramwadi (Garware college), a distance of five km. The Metro project is touted as the future of Pune.

The PM will also be present at a function at Pimpri Chinchwad. The Union Cabinet has cleared the metro rail project as a public-private partnership (PPP), and an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore will be spent to execute it.
The Mega Event: Modi in Pune for Metro Inauguration
Before the event, a rehearsal by the officials was held just in case of any untoward situation. In order to ensure that only citizens booked online come to the site, there will be 200 surveillance cameras. According to officials, it is for the first time that at least 27 security barricades will be erected for public safety during such a mega event.
The first few days will be free to all users and an exciting new part of the city will be opened up to all travel with a capacity for 27 trains per route, to and from Vanaz College and Garware College, as well as Phugewadi and Pimpri.

In a significant development in the long wait for the metro service to begin operations in Pune, Mahametro reported that the total length of the project has been completed. The work of the remaining only 202 m is pending on the Pune-Swargate route.

How much is the cost of Maha Metro?
MahaMetro has decided to buy all nine trains for Phase I as per the current agreement, with a rate of Rs. 246 Crore and an additional Rs. 56 crore if the length of the train is increased from 4-4-4 to 5-5-5. This brings the total estimated cost of the purchase of all trains to Rs. 302 crores.
How much fare for Vanaz to Garware college? Modi in Pune for Metro Inauguration
Passengers can travel on the metro train for a period of 15 minutes to reach Vanaz from Garware college. The maximum riding rate of tickets will be ₹20 and minimum ₹10. Each station will be ready within two to three minutes and the maximum speed of the train will be 80 km per hour. In addition, it is expected to reduce road congestion as well as travel for passengers by half.
The metro service, connecting Vanaz and Ramwadi over a 5.6-kilometer distance, will start functioning very soon, and hopefully, it will provide a smooth experience to the travelers.
