It’s been a while since fans have seen Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes in the television series adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective stories. The show that first aired in 2010 was last seen in 2017 with season 4 ending on January 15 after three episodes. Since then, Sherlock has been put to the sidelines as other shows emerged.
But fans who love watching the TV series are starting to feel the excitement as rumors are building up about season 5 finally returning to Netflix this 2020. Here’s what we know so far:
Another proof of this is a statement from the Speedy Café that was featured in the show. He said: “I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but have heard they will be coming back for the fifth season.” While there’s no exact release date yet, fans are sure that the show will continue.
The actor has mentioned his somewhat lack of interest in playing the character again saying that it wasn’t fun because it felt like someone was pushing him to do it.
Finally, there’s always the question about what the plot for season 5 will be. Although there are no confirmed news yet, the show’s co-creator Steven Moffatt revealed a hint in a Facebook post saying: “Dr. Watson has now became Doyle’s brave widower and Sherlock has become a wise and humane version of the main run of the stories. And then comes the Chapter two of the show.”
Sherlock is definitely coming back at some point. Fans will just have to wait for the great detective and his sidekick to make their way back to the screens.
