Revisiting Hotmail and the New Hotmail Login Update

Last July, Hotmail users were treated to a brand new update from Microsoft. It transformed the UI from the Hotmail interface users were accustomed to into Outlook.com.

From Hotmail to Outlook, the switch left many questions on its trail.

To existing Hotmail users, the change can be quite confusing. But considering that the email service has had several names since Microsoft bought it from its original creators in 1997, they’re probably used to Live Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Web App used interchangeably with Hotmail.

To non-Hotmail users, the update comes as a major surprise. Most of them have relegated the email service into the category of “where are they now”?

Apparently, Hotmail is not dead as many believed. It was simply the UI that has been put to rest. Everything else, including your Hotmail login, is the same.

What is Hotmail?

Hotmail is an email service that rivals the likes of Google Gmail and Windows Live. It used to be a successful alternative free email service but its popularity was overshadowed by Gmail.

Still, Hotmail users held on to it because it offers:

• Refreshed anti-spam and hack protection software
• A host of Microsoft services, such as Skype, Windows Live ID, and Xbox Live.

Hotmail Login Update

The recent update of Hotmail was designed to improve the interface for a better user experience. The brand new Outlook interface is more efficient, smoother, and gives users more control over email management.

Existing Hotmail users have the option to retain their old Hotmail account since it will still work.

A lot of Hotmail users were worried that they can no longer access their account with the move to Outlook. But this is not the case. The only thing that’s changed is the Hotmail homepage.

To log in to your Hotmail account:

1. Type the address of the Hotmail login page on a browser.

Note: You will be automatically redirected to the Microsoft free personal email login page.

1. Type your Hotmail email account in the Microsoft sign in box.

Note: Because your Hotmail account is one of the Microsoft accounts, along with Microsoft Free Personal Email Account and Live Account, you can use your Hotmail login on the Microsoft sign in box.

1. Click the Sign in button. Once logged in, you’ll be redirected to the Hotmail homepage.

If your sign-in fails, it can mean one and two things—your email and/or password is incorrect.

Those who do want to move to outlook.com must update their Hotmail.

1. Log in to your Hotmail account
2. Click Options, then choose Free Upgrade to Outlook.Com

The change will not affect your email address and your password and old emails will be saved.

Those who want to create a Hotmail account now will get the new Outlook interface.

1. Create a Hotmail or Outlook account
2. Go to ww.login.live.com
3. Click Create a New Account
4. Provide all the details required to complete the process
5. Choose a login—via a new email address or phone number, and then confirm your new account.

One sign up is complete, test your login.
