Apps have changed the way we use our phones. Handheld devices of the past sufficed with their messaging and camera features but change came swiftly in the decade that followed. Now, we can virtually do everything on a smartphone – book a flight, hire a babysitter, and even find a date.

Now, apps on our phones aren’t just to get work done. There are also those that allow us to relax and decompress. Companies that allow people to stream music have developed apps to enable their services to reach more people. One that’s proven successful in this endeavor is Spotify.

Profile

Spotify is a music, podcast, and video streaming service developed by Sweden-based Spotify AB. Launched in October 2008, it provides content to users that’s DRM-protected from record labels and media companies.

In an article posted on Billboard, Ed Christman identifies that Spotify has 70 million paid subscribers worldwide as of October 2017. 18.2 million of these are in the United States. “The Swedish digital service added almost 4.4 million subscribers in the first 10 months of 2017 to about 18.2 million subscribers. While Billboard doesn’t have a year-end subscriber count for Spotify, sources say it was about 19 million in the U.S.”, he adds.

How do I download it?

Spotify is available for download on both the Apple Store and Google Play. While the app allows you to create a free account, access to its best features (no ads) is only available when you become a premium subscriber. There are APK downloads that offer a way around but it’s worth noting that these come with their own risks.

On the other hand, Spotify offers a number of plans that are designed to fit both the music lover’s needs and budget. Choose what’s best for you today.
