After recent reports have been published, Apple admitted that it’s slowing down older iPhones. This process takes place because of aging batteries and cold conditions, or at least that is Apple’s official version.

Apple confirmed the rumor

For a long time, there were rumors that Apple was slowing down older iPhones on purpose. Some said that was a strategy to make people buy newer iPhone models. The company declared that the reason behind slowing down older models is battery capacity. Batteries get older in time and stop holding charged properly, especially when temperature is cold.

A good example was iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. The processor of these two phones could perform faster, but the batteries could not handle the demand, and, the phones would shut off by themselves.

iOS software has better power management capabilities

By slowing down the device, Apple prevents their phones from shutting down.

Reddit users started commenting on solutions for the problems. Apple admitted that using new batteries makes the system work at full capacity. Some Reddit users were wondering if it buying new batteries is worth it or what other solutions might be.

Apple released a statement

The American giant explained that the company’s goal is to give customers the best experience possible with its products. Apple’s main idea is to prolong the life of its devices. Lithium-ion batteries can be less able to work properly during cold weather or when they age. The solution adopted by Apple was to release a feature of iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone SE to prevent the phones from shutting down. The same feature has been applied to the newer iPhone 7, using the iOS 11.2.

Many iPhone owners have complained that each time a new iPhone model gets released; their device’s performance seems to drop.
