OnePlus5 users know that Oxygen OS 5.0 has been in the beta for a while now. It appears that this is finally over, and, as an early Christmas gift, and the OTA update is finally on its way to reach all users. However, it will take a while for it to roll out for everyone so you might have to wait a bit.

The news was announced by OnePlus yesterday and the update should already be available for some users. You will need to connect to Wi-Fi and make sure that you have 1587 MB of storage empty. If the update is not available yet for you, there is a way to get it early by VPNing to certain countries. In this case, it is recommended to try Canada. You cannot OTA to the latest release if you already are on the Open Beta.

Update changelog

This update is a major one and it comes with plenty of changes and additions. For example, there is a new camera UI design and the Portrait Mode comes with a beautiful effect. Photo quality has also received some optimizations.

There is a new history feature for calculator, and the gallery has a new tab named “Places” that allows you to view photos on the map. Meanwhile, the Clock app received an alarm calendar feature. There are also some Launcher changes such as optimizations for Shelf and users can now upload a photo through Shot on OnePlus.

When it comes to System changes, this update comes with optimizations for both the Battery Saver and the Wi-Fi. There is a new design for Quick Settings, as well as a new design for Lift up display. There is the Parallel Apps feature and the phone also receive the December security patch.
