Despite the fact that Android 8.0 Oreo was released back in August, there are not too many Android users that received it on their devices. Other than Google phones and a few other exceptions, there are not many smartphones that got the update.

Luckily, this situation is slowly changing. Right now it seems that OnePlus 5 will be the next phone that will receive Android 8.0 Oreo and the update already started rolling out through a closed beta program.

OxygenOS Open Beta 1

OnePlus devices do not just simply receive Android Oreo. The phones will receive Oxygen OS Open, an operating system that is based on Android 8.0. OnePlus already released an Android Open beta build for OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 last month, and now they were finally ready to do that for OnePlus 5 as well.

“We are super excited to announce that we are ready to kick off the ‘Open Beta Program’ for the OnePlus 5 today. The first ‘Open Beta’ build based on Android 8.0 for the OnePlus 5 is available for download now,” one of their blog posts read.

Android 8.0 Oreo functions and tweaks

This update will bring all the Oreo functions. This means that users will receive “Parallel Apps”, the functions that allows you to run dual accounts of various social media, such as WhatsApp and Facebook.

The update also comes with notification dots that will appear next the apps’ icons and show you if you have unread notifications. Long pressing the icons will also allow you to preview the notifications without actually opening the app.

“Picture-in-picture” mode also comes with this update, as well as a new Quick Settings design, new app folder design, auto-fill and smart text selection.
