Ever since the Google announcement that Android 8.0 Oreo is coming, Samsung users have flooded us with questions as to when they are going to get the update. Some are asking, will it come to my Samsung S7 first? Or should I update my Note 5 right away?

To address these concerns, we have rounded up all relevant sources so that you can now be sure when you can get your hands on the 8.0 Oreo update. So whether you have the Samsung Galaxy S7, S6 and Note 5, the following details are for you:

Galaxy S7

Will certainly get the Android 8.0 which will make it the second major OS upgrade for the phone.

Galaxy S6 series

Already received two major Android upgrades, the most recent one (Nougat update) was last March of this year.

Galaxy Note 5

Already received two major Android upgrades with the first one (Android 6.0 Marshmallow) during the last quarter of 2015 and then the second one through the latest Nougat update (Android 7.0 Nougat) last 2016.

However, Note 5 and S6 series owners need not worry that much. We already know how Samsung handles software for their smartphones so we can expect that they’ll be offering new or even something better to compensate for this exclusion. That’s for the future though and we can only hope that it will be sooner than later.

Now, what are the features to expect from the Android Oreo 8.0 update?

Samsung DeX enhanced – you can now use your smartphone as a mouse with this DeX update. As one of the biggest new feature for DeX, it has the capability to show a black and white screen where the user can emulate the movement of a mouse.

New Edge lighting effects – already debuted on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, this feature is expected to rolled out to other Samsung devices too, including S7 and S6 (most probably). It lets the user choose 3 lighting effects when notifications are present.

Improved keyboards – aside from enabling moving GIFs to the input field, this feature will also provide a new toolbar that can give the user access to various functionalities quickly.
