Unlike other follow ups to popular game titles, the third entry to the Red Dead series is actually coming – it even has an official release date. So with 2018 fast approaching and a release in the spring, what is known about Red Dead Redemption 2?

The delayed launch

Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced by Rockstar in October 2016. Days before the announcement, teaser images were shared on different social media platforms and unsurprisingly, many were excited about it. It was also scheduled to be released this year.

A bit of disappointment came in May 2017 when the makers of the game announced via their website that the game’s release would be delayed. A very specific reason was given for moving the release date: the game was being developed “from the ground up.” As such, it needed all the time to get everything right.

How much do they need? Apparently, not that long as the game is set for a Spring 2018 release.

The trailers

The first trailer was released in October 2016. It didn’t provide much information but it did provide a glimpse of what to expect from the game. Set in the Old West, the scenes involved the usual elements of that time: shanty towns with bars, general stores, cattle, and of course cowboys.

An unknown voice is heard saying “Listen to me. When the time comes, you gotta run and don’t look back. This is over.” It’s not known who speaks those words and the scene that follows shows seven men – the same number of men featured in a teaser image – riding horses.

The second trailer dropped in September of this year. This time, it introduced the characters of the game. Arthur Morgan is the name of the character gamers will control. He is an outlaw and a member the Van der Linde gang. He seems to have gotten on the bad side of some groups across the Wild West, and their pursuit of him would most likely be the plot for the game.

Arthur, on the hand, would be making friends along the way as he tries to escapes those he has angered.

The release date

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be made available for the PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox One X in the Spring of 2018. Although the game has an official release date, the actual date of release has not yet been revealed.

Not much is known about the game, but bits of pieces can be gleaned from snippets of information released on Rockstar’s official site. The game is an “epic tale”, one that is set in the Wild West, “America’s unforgiving heartland”, and one that will “provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”

The gameplay

No clear information has been released about how game play, but teaser images seem to indicate that gamers can play with seven characters – the men shown in the trailers as well as the artwork.

Rockstar has provided several great game titles over the years, and while waiting for this to drop, fans can speculate wildly about the never-ending GTA 6 rumors.
