Windows 10 is probably the most revolutionary Windows version so far, and it managed to bring many important additions. However, Windows 10 also removed several programs and features that were considered outdated.

Windows Media Center is one of the things that was left behind by Windows 10. After it was removed, users had to deal with a new issue: how to play DVDs on Windows 10. Luckily there are plenty of alternatives that will you to do that for free. Let’s take a look at some of them.

VideoLAN

The best option appears to be VideoLAN. VLC works perfectly with Windows, and it is available for free. However, you shouldn’t get the Windows Store version. Instead, buy the desktop app since it also supports Blu-ray and DVDs.

After you install it you will be able to watch any DVD. Simply insert the disc and then go to Media and select Open Disc. If you are willing to explore a bit more you will see that VLC can be also used to capture webcam videos, stream files to the Internet, stream files from the internet and many other things.

Windows DVD Player

Microsoft tried to replace Windows Media Player with Windows DVD Player, but it wasn’t necessarily the best decision. You can get Windows DVD Player for $15, although some users managed to receive it for free when they upgraded from Windows 8.

Nevertheless, Windows DVD Player has plenty of issues, that haven’t been fixed in all these years. Many users complained about the fact that the program is not the best when it comes to switching between discs, and most of the time you will have to restart the app if you change the DVD, so that it will be recognized. Additionally, the interface is not very developed.
