Moto G4 Plus Will Get The Android 8.0 Oreo Update

Motorola has announced that they will roll out Android Oreo 8.0 on 12 handsets, but among the list the Moto G4 Plus wasn’t mentioned. This raised a lot of eyebrows, since the smartphone was 1-year-old and should have been compatible with the new OS.

Moto G4 Plus Will Get the Oreo Update – But You’ll Have to Wait For It

After the company saw a lot of criticism regarding the missing smartphone on the list, they have decided to include it in the OS update, along with the others. Lenovo has explained that the Moto G4 Plus was omitted due to a marketing error and that it should have been on that list.

Here is the full statement – in an official blog post published by the company – on this matter:

‘Since the time of posting this, we have learned of some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus.’

They also said that their Moto G series only gets a single major OS upgrade, so the Moto G4 Plus got the Android Nougat upgrade and it wasn’t planned for the next one:

‘But it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading moto g4 Plus to Android O’.

The issue is that since it is an unplanned upgrade, users that own a Moto G4 Plus will have to wait and check the software upgrade page for more info on the release date:

‘Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit into our schedule, we’ll update our software upgrade page when we have more info’

For those that own an original Moto G4, we have some bad news. They will not get the update at all – because perhaps there wasn’t a marketing mistake after all.
