Gardai from the Counter Terrorism International Unit arrested two men in Dublin on suspicions for terrorist offences on Monday, May 8.

An Algerian national (30s) and a Moroccan national (40s) were detained in the Dublin area under The Terrorist Offences Act. The men were held at Blackrock Garda Station and questioned about suspected financial transactions linked to international terrorism.

On Tuesday the Moroccan man was released without charge and a file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The Algerian man remained in custody and there is no information as of yet whether he will also be released.

In addition to the Dublin arrests on Monday, gardai carried out a series of raids in Swords, Stepaside, South Circular Road and Trim.
