The last message left by Khalid Masood before the attack in Westminster on 22 March was revealed by the security agencies. He has used the WhatsApp messaging system to declare that he was waging jihad in revenge against Western military action in Muslim countries in the Middle East.

52-year-old Masood has sent the message just minutes before the rampage on Westminster, which left five killed and more than 50 injured. The person who has received the message has been questioned by the police but he was set free as it was determined that he had no knowledge of the attack and did not participate in plotting it. He was questioned by both police and MI5.

Eleven other people were detained after the attack but were later released.

The authorities did not disclose the method used to access Masood’s message but confirmed that they have the necessary knowledge to do the same in future if needed.

ISIS claimed responsibility of the attack but no evidence was found to support this.
