The Egyptian army has issued a statement on Thursday, April 20, claiming that their air forces have killed 19 Islamic extremists in northern Sinai.

The military reported that their strikes on the “terrorist strongholds” of the local Islamic State group affiliate has also destroyed four of the vehicles of the terrorists in addition to killing militants.

There is no official proof of the attack and the Egyptian military claims that it kills hundreds of militants in the area of the Sinai peninsula each year. Often, no sufficient evidence of the claims is offered and journalists and non-residents are not allowed to enter the area.

The IS-led group has its main positions in northern Sinai but the Islamists often strike farther south.
