33 Young Men Slaughtered by ISIS Found in a Mass Grave

A human rights group reported that a mass grave with 33 young men slaughtered by Islamic State militants  was found near the town of Mayadeen in Deir el-Zour province, close to the Syrian border with Iraq. The information about the murders was also reported by opposition activist Omar Abu Laila.

According to the information the victims are young men aged 18-25 who were killed by means of sharp tools on Wednesday, April 5, and dumped into a mass grave. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the slaughter as “the largest execution operation carried out by [ISIS] in 2017.”

ISIS has carried out similar killings throughout Syria. Earlier this year, while they were in control of the ancient city of Palmera the killers performed public beheadings on a regular basis, including hanging the antiquities chief’s body from a pole in the main square.
