Police have not ruled out terrorism as the possible motive in a Florida airport shooting which left five people dead and several others injured.

“They guy must have been standing over me at one point. I could smell the gunpowder,”

-said Bruce Hugon, who was about to start his vacation in South Florida, when he said he saw a woman get shot in the head.

Authorities identified 26-year-old Esteban Santiago as the suspected gunman, saying he took a gun out of his checked luggage and opened fire in a crowded baggage claim area at Fort Lauderdale’s airport, months after he showed up at an FBI office behaving erratically.

As reported by NBC News, the gunman appeared to be shooting randomly into the crowd. Calls about the incident began to come in around 12:55 p.m. Eastern Time, and one witness, John Schicher, told MSNBC, “The gunman said nothing and didn’t appear to be targeting anyone specifically.”

“After he claimed his bag, he went into the bathroom and loaded the gun and started shooting,”
