At least six civilians were killed and six others were wounded in a blast in Afghanistan’s eastern Nanagarhar privince on Monday, local officials said.

“The suicide bomber blew up his explosives inside a gathering of tribal elders from Pacherwagam district,” Attaullah Khugyani, a spokesman for the Nangarhar governor, said, adding that the blast took place in the provincial capital, Jalalabad. Khugyani said the motive for the attack is unclear and the matter is being investigated.

Earlier NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan said the militants had around 1,000 fighters located in three districts of Nangarhar.
