Shaheen-20 operations end the lives of 34 ISIS fighters

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) have killed 34 fighters loyal to Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) during counter-terrorism operations. Locations of the operations were not specified.

“Shaheen-20 military operations conducted by Afghanistan’s security forces have been successful.” stated the MoD on Thursday. “34 fighters of the ISIS have been killed. among the slain was a mine planter. Another of the fighters was wounded.” added the Ministry.

However the MoD did not specify the areas where the operations were conducted although ISIS is primarily located in eastern Nangarhar province.  On a similar note the Ministry stated on Tuesday that 45 militants, 19 among being loyal to ISIS have been killed in the same province during operations conducted in Pachera Agam and Achin districts. MoDalso added that the operations were conducted with the support of close-air support and artillery units in the past 24 hours.

The counter-terrorism operations mentioned by the MoD are conducted as part of the Afghan National Defense and Security Force (ANDSF)’s annual clearance operations. The annual operation, Shafaq operation, was launched earlier this year in response to Taliban’s annual spring offensive the group announced in mid-April this year.
