Six PKK terrorists were killed in a clash with security forces in Mesudiye district of northern Ordu province on Friday.

Governor Irfan Balkanlıoğlu stated that terrorists were spotted by security forces during field scanning. The terrorist group is believed to be the same group that carried out an attack on July 31 in Mesudiye which killed three soldiers, Balkanlıoğlu added.

The terrorists were found carrying one M-16 and five AK-47 rifles, hand grenades and several documents. The governor said that PKK terrorists are using the region between Mesudiye and Koyulhisar district of Sivas province as a passage route.

Using the mountainous terrain and forests to its advantage, PKK is trying to expand its sphere of influence to include Turkey’s northern Black Sea region by carrying out hit-and-run attacks in the area, but it lacks support from locals there. The PKK, which is also listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards, have been killed and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq
