One woman was killed and five other people were injured in a knife attack at “Russell Square” in central London last night, reported world agencies.
Police forces were called to the scene after a signal that armed with cold steel man attacked people on the square around 22:30 last night. The attacker was arrested after being neutralized with electroshock gun six minutes after the call. On the square were found six wounded. A woman aged between 60 and ’70 was still alive when the medical team arriced. They tried to save her but without success.
At the scene was arrested a 19 year old man.
According to British police his mental state is a significant factor for his attack.
“While the investigation is not yet complete all of the work we have done so far, increasingly points to this tragic incident as having been triggered by mental health issues,” said Metropolitan police assistant commissioner Mark Rowley. “Indeed at this time we believe it was a spontaneous attack and the victims were selected at random.”
“Of course, at this stage we should keep an open mind regarding motive and consequently terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of inquiry for us to explore,” he added.
The incident happened in the Bloomsbury area, which is a center of intellectual, educational and cultural life and a favorite place for relaxation of residents and visitors to the British capital. Here are the British Museum, the main complex of buildings of the University of London, several other schools museums, hotels and restaurants.
